The Old Pumping Station

river cam abbey

Sited by the River Cam, the Museum is housed in the Old Pumping Station. This was set up to pump sewage into a sewage farm at Milton, and closed down in 1968. Originally the power  came from steam. The city’s rubbish was burned here to produce the steam, an early recycling unit. Families can borrow a mini tool- box of activities, see the big steam engines or dress up in Victorian clothes.
